Where to buy cheap second-hand comics online in the UK

If you read comics, buying new every week gets expensive fast. A single weekly can cost more than a coffee, and a full run of a series can run into hundreds of pounds. The good news: almost everything ends up second-hand eventually, usually in excellent condition, at a fraction of the cover price. The trick is knowing where to look and what to check before you pay.

Start with condition. The biggest risk buying pre-owned comics online is a copy that looks fine in a thumbnail and arrives with a rolled spine or blunted corners. Only buy from sellers who photograph the actual copy — front, back and spine — and grade it honestly. At My Hiro every copy is graded by hand under daylight and photographed as-is, so the comic you see is the comic that ships. If there is a stress mark, we say so in the listing and price it accordingly.

Next, compare against what you would actually pay elsewhere, not against a wishful "collector" price. We price every copy against the real high-street and marketplace rate, so a second-hand copy is genuinely cheaper than buying new — not a rounding error away from it. Where a title has a first printing or a pull-out poster still intact, that is called out rather than hidden.

Watch the extras that quietly inflate the total. Auctions add bidding stress and sniping; some marketplaces pass listing fees on to buyers; a few sellers make their margin back on postage. We keep it flat and Vinted-style: a clear price, tracked and insured delivery, and no surprise fees bolted on at checkout. Bundle three or more and the savings get bigger.

Finally, protect yourself. Buy where there is real buyer protection and a returns window, so if a copy arrives worse than described you are covered. My Hiro backs every order with 30-day returns and insured delivery, which matters more with collectables than with almost anything else you buy online. Buy pre-owned, buy graded, and you get the same comics for a lot less.
